It’s hard to learn under pressure. In order to absorb and retain information—and have fun doing so!—people need the freedom to experiment with new knowledge without feeling anxious. For many potential musicians, starting guitar lessons is a daunting task. Fear of failure drives them more than the dream of achievement. I’ve heard countless stories about quitting guitar or piano lessons at an early age. While the culprit is at times boredom, more often than not it is the feeling of not being “good enough”. This does not have to be the case. We can ALL feel amazing about playing instruments no matter our skill level!
I began playing the piano at the age of eight, drums at the age of eleven, and guitar at the age of thirteen. Music has always been exciting to me. Being self-taught, I never had a clear road map pointing the way to musicianship. I didn’t know what “good enough” was. I just loved to play. And that’s what music is: play!
I teach guitar lessons in Orlando because I love creating a playful environment. My students are free to try new skills as many times and in as many ways as it takes for their unique minds to figure out. Whether taking ukulele or guitar lessons at home or learning virtually, every budding musician can feel like a kid examining a cool rock: curious, excited, and full of wonder!
